How We Raise Money
How We Raise Money
|
Unlike the majority of Charities, NONE of the money we raise from the public is spent on staff wages and other administration costs – all of these are paid from our subs (£30/year for the Mexborough club) and profits from our members-only Social activities. Every penny earned goes to charity.
Every Lions Club raises its own funds, and the methods are up to the members. Here's some of the ways Mexborough & District Lions raise cash:
- Fashion Shows and Car Boot Stalls – on with the new, out with the old!
- Running Golf Competitions – our last one, 21st May 2004 at Wath GC, raised £1,000 for the Kilnhurst Autistic Resource (KARAMBA). We also help local business Keepmoat plc with theirs, and they've given us some very generous donations.
- Our Christmas Sleigh takes Santa round the area with his (or her) elves and fairies collecting from the Mums & Dads
- Selling Quiz Competition sheets (with good prizes!) - popular with the errudite members...
- Easter Draw in the local pubs & clubs - popular with the drinking members!
- Manning stalls and running games at local Shows - see us at Mexborough Gala and Edlington Gala in June.
- We've a Duck Race in September (click here for more details)...no lame ducks in Mexborough Lions!
- Organising Dances, Race Nights, Sponsored Walks, P-ups in Breweries, you name it, we'll try it.
We try to give value for money and, because no Lion gets paid for the time they put in, we can do that and still make a good profit for our Charity Fund.
